Case Example: Soy Balance Pills
I take
soy balance pills to help with the hot flashes, can they cause uterine
fibroids?
Analysis:
It is unlikely that the soy
has anything to do with the fibroids. Fibroids can develop anytime
before you enter menopause. It is quite possible that your
bleeding may be related to fibroids. It is important that you
discuss this with your doctor or a doctor of your choice. -

Case Example:
Cancer - fibroid
What are the chances that my fibroid might be cancerous?
Analysis:
Cancer
in a fibroid is rare before menopause but is more likely after.
The CT is unlikely to be useful in this situation since it is not very
accurate for pelvic disease. A better option to determine if it
is growing is to compare it to previous recent ( in the past year or
so) ultrasounds or repeat the ultrasound in a month or so. It is
also important that the ultrasound be by a radiologist or a very
experienced gynecologist. If that suggests significant change in
size an MRI would be more useful. -
