A group of women realized the need for medical information and free screenings in their community and felt they needed to do something about it. The Business & Professional Women’s Federation & Nurse’s Unit Harrisburg District Chapter worked hard to make their dream become a reality. They coordinated and sponsored their first Community Health Fair on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Harrisburg Area Community College! Free screenings for cholesterol, vision, glaucoma, hearing, blood pressure, glucose, stroke and cardiovascular were performed at the Health Fair. Several doctors and cancer survivors spoke at the cancer seminars. Hope For Fibroids, Inc. was invited to participate in the event. Many questions were asked about Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) and women were able to view the Embospheres that are used in the UAE procedure (Embospheres in red syringes). Embosphere Medical contributed the samples of the ‘Embosphere Gold’ Embospheres.
Uterine fibroid medical illustrations, on the display, showed the different methods of treating uterine fibroids, which are performed by Interventional Radiologist and Gynecologist (Refer to Methods For Management of Uterine Fibroids Guide). Dr. Paul Indman, Dr. Francis Hutchins, Jr., and Dr. Robert Worthington-Kirsch gave permission to use their medical photos for the displays.
Becky White, President of the Business & Professional Women’s Federation & Nurse’s Unit Harrisburg District Chapter, was one of the organizers for the function.

Margaret Thompson was instrumental in notifying the Hope For Fibroids Marketing Director, Mike Waltman, about the event.
There were thirty-five (35) vendors/displays at the health fair. Approximately 200 people attended the event. Everyone had a wonderful time at the event and learned a lot about the importance of early medical detection. The Business & Professional Women’s Federation (BPWF) & Nurse’s Unit Harrisburg District Chapter plan on having an annual Community Health Fair.
