"I am happy to introduce the new Hope For Fibroids, Inc. Men & Family section.   The new section will give men, friends, and family members, who are sometimes the silent hurting victims of fibroid disease, an opportunity to read about other families uterine fibroid experiences." - Mike

September 2007:  Dear Hope, You mentioned on one of your posts that you take your husband on your ob/gyn visits.  I asked my husband to go to my urologist visit.  I'm glad he did.  He went on the visit that they taught me to catheterize myself & showed him how to do it to me IF I couldn't.  My husband was such a good sport, He really surprised me.  I know how much he hates this stuff & he gets queasy going to a Dr's office.

I'm proud of him.  They had me lying there spread out & the nurse explained my anatomy to him (he kept a straight face) & showed him how to insert it.

Your message put the thought in my head & I'm so glad I asked him to go. The Doctor even shook his hand & told him thanks for coming in with me.

My husband said he's glad he was there.  He understands so much more than just me trying to explain it.  Plus, he thinks I'd try to hide bad news from him so this way he gets all the information first hand.

So thanks for your story, I would have never thought to ask him to go on my own.  – Thanks D. (Women's Health Forum)

Spouse worried about colon obstruction during pregnancy

My wife is 20 weeks pregnant.  We discovered a large fibroid (7cm diameter) in her uterus 2 weeks before pregnancy so had little time to think about the complications that may arise from a pregnancy.  Link to comment.

Spouse, wife, and baby

I spend nearly every night before we go to sleep gently massaging the fibroid, which helps to relieve my wife's anxiety about it (to the Husband's article July 2006).

A supportive husband

I had a myomectomy two years ago for fibroids and two fibroids were left behind because of their location.  My gynecologist finally allowed me to have an ultrasound after the myomectomy and now I have been diagnosed with four fibroids.  When I got home from my gynecologist visit, I burst into tears, and my fabulous husband informed me he had already found the new doctor's phone number, and he had scheduled an appointment for me three weeks later.  We had to travel to the new doctor – he was in another state.

We still do not have children, and now we're not sure we will be able to.  I am in my late 30’s, and I have never been pregnant.  I joke all the time that I have had two sets of quadruplets, though they were fibroids!  It has been a very hard time for us both, and my husband has been amazingly supportive (much like Mike).  He recently sent a letter to our Senator, asking them to support the Uterine Fibroids Research and Education Act of 2005.  He received a wonderful, personal response from the Senator - not a standard form letter.  Today he is sending a letter to television shows, urging them to do a show about fibroids.

Husband and Daddy

My wife is about 16 weeks pregnant.   We were going to have a midwife deliver.  During our first visit at 9 weeks, the midwife did a routine cervical exam and felt the fibroid.  It is now the size of softball and is causing her so much discomfort.

What are her options right now?  Just wait it out?  Procedures?  I am writing you about the lead story that you have on the site..it is the article from March 15 and the lead photo.  That could have been me writing that...it is the first time in four months that I connected at all with someone I can relate to...my wife is so lonely too...none of the mothers or soon-to-be mothers in our area know anything about what she is going through...she would love to have someone that she can relate to...any contact would really be great!  Thank you so much for your time.  I look forward to keeping in touch...thank you for the Website!

Daughter’s heredity concerns

I am scheduled for a Hysteroscopy.  I have had two ultrasounds and my doctor doesn't believe I have fibroid tumors in my uterus, but she believes that she will find polyps.  I have been having spotting between periods and my periods are heavy and have either been stopping abruptly or continuing for up to 8 days.

My mother's side has a history of precancerous uterus generally around late 50's.  I am only in my early 40's.  Do I need to be frightened???

Friend concerned about her girlfriend’s pregnancy

I have been learning a lot from your web site.

I need to know... how concerned should I be for a friend of mine.  My best friend just found out that "a good portion" of her placenta is attached to the 12cm long fibroid.  I do not know the exact location of the fibroid.  She is 19 1/2 weeks pregnant and distraught over the news.  Her doctor is worried about hemorrhage.  Is her situation a rarity and she'll be okay... very unlikely for a bad outcome for her or the baby, or is something like this quite serious???  I'm trying to get an idea of likelihood of outcomes.

At this point, the baby looks really good.

She's afraid to be alone, just in case she hemorrhages, and her husband works nights.  Should she stay with family/friends overnight?

Confused and scared

I really need to get your opinion regarding my wife’s situation.  Just a few days ago our life changed!  The Doctor told us she has 3 fibroids and she has to have surgery right away! and a lot of other scary things... We are shocked.  We don't know what we should do. - A loving Husband.
