Bacterial Vaginitis
What is Bacterial Vaginosis?
Bacterial Vaginosis, often called BV for short,is an
infection in the vagina caused by a group of bacteria.
The vagina normally
contains many "good" bacteria known as lactobacilli (lack-toe-ba-sill-eye)
and some other types as well.
Too many of these other types can result in
bacterial vaginosis.
CAUSES OF BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS
Any woman can get BV.
Some activities or behaviors
affect the normal balance in the vagina and can increase the chances of
getting BV.
These include:
✔ A new sex partner or multiple sex
partners ✔ Using a douche for personal hygiene ✔ Using an
IUD for contraception |
